The free PDFs feature, for example, a theological reflection on dementia, another one on death and dying, as well plenty of practical and pastoral advice on each of these complex subjects. There’s signposting of where to find help and support, and a guide to further reading on each of the topics as well.
At their launch, Andrew Wileman, assistant director, older people’s services, for The Salvation Army, said:
‘The older people’s ministries team for the UK and Ireland Salvation Army have launched a new set of resources called ‘A Closer Look at Ageing’. Initially with a series of five topics that all have a unique role within the ageing story of the UK: Retirement, Social Care, Death and Dying, Befriending and Dementia. This is a series of unique briefings and information that we believe will be useful for church leaders and practitioners at the local level.’
Andrew was in Hedge End, Southampton, recently (see our blog earlier this month) for the commissioning of Lynn Sillence as the first-ever Salvation Army Corps-based Anna Chaplain. ‘A glorious day and wonderful occasion’, said Andrew who preached at the service. ‘A wonderful and new example of shared ministry,’ he said.
