A new Anna Chaplain at Swansea Minster

As Swansea’s streets welcomed people for its annual half marathon on June 7, another special event was also taking place in Swansea.
Despite many of the roads having been closed earlier, a good congregation gathered at Swansea Minister to support and welcome its new Anna Chaplain for Swansea Minster, Swansea Ministry Area and environs. Jaqui Morgan was commissioned as an integral part of the Eucharist service.
The Revd Sally Rees (Bishops Officer for Older People's Ministry for Swansea and Brecon Diocese) presented Jaqui Morgan for commissioning to the Revd Canon Justin Davies, Rector of Swansea Minster, as she made her commitment to Anna Chaplaincy ministry. Revd Justin is an enthusiastic supporter Anna Chaplaincy and had encouraged her to go forward in this role. He was delighted to welcome Jaqui as the first Anna Chaplain to the Minster team.
Revd Sally spoke about Anna Chaplaincy, using Mark 12: 41 – 44, the story of ‘the widow’s mite’ to illustrate how much older people offer of themselves within this ministry and how rewarding Anna Chaplaincy can be to those who minister with older people. This has led to others inquiring about becoming Anna Friends.
Jaqui is a retired Customer Services Manager. She has been a volunteer hospital chaplain and also has had her own cake making company. The cake she made for others to enjoy after her service was very much enjoyed by all. We all know that there is a ‘ministry of sharing cake’!
After spotting an advert in the diocesan newsletter, Jaqui attended the All Wales Anna Chaplaincy Conference in Newtown in September 2025. She then enrolled and completed the six-week Anna Chaplaincy training course with Julia Burton-Jones.
Jaqui says, ‘my ministry is forging links with care homes, where I am able to establish spiritual support with residents, staff and visitors/families. I also visit an MS (multiple sclerosis) group and make home visits, giving Communion to those who want it. Swansea Minster is open 7 days a week and I spend time engaging with those of faith and those seeking a refuge and a quiet space to talk.’
