Alton runs The Spiritual Care Course - read all about it
![]() Anna Chaplain Emily Spencer has certainly been busy lately (see previous blog) because as well as turning her mind to Harvest Festival she has also been running the BRF Spiritual Care Course in Alton, Hampshire. You can read an excellent article about how she found running the Spiritual Care Series course for the first time as well as full details about all the many training opportunities that Anna Chaplaincy provides. Eley McAinsh has looked at the impact the course has on participants, both in their support of the spiritual needs of older people and in their personal experience of ageing and reflections on faith and mortality. Emily, for instance, ran the course with a group of seven. She says: |
The course made me more aware of how important it is, not only for myself but my team of Anna Friends, to feel equipped and confident in being able to offer effective, meaningful spiritual care to older people… It was so rich. We’ve all said that now, when we go out visiting and into care homes, we have a much deeper perspective and awareness. And personally, it’s made me think about my own family, particularly my parents and my grandparents, and what might be going on for them… It’s given me the insights, and the words maybe, to open up some of those hard conversations we can shy away from in families, and that seems a really healthy thing.
