Angela Stewart is now an Anna Chaplain in Sheringham, one of six Anna Chaplains commissioned on February 2 - Candlemas - across the UK this year. Candlemas is time in the church's calendar when Simeon and the prophetess Anna are celebrated.
Angela writes: 'I was commissioned as Anna Chaplain, on February 2,in St Peter’s Church in Sheringham. It was a lovely service and the photograph shows me with the Revd Christina Rees, presenting me with my certificate.' Christina Rees CBE is a writer, broadcaster and school chaplain in the county.
'My new ministry will be an extension to my service as a Licensed Lay Minister, LLM. I plan to start by running a group to offer information technology support to the ‘digitally disadvantaged’ (our young curate is on board with this); an arts/creativity session with a spiritual theme running through it; and of course refreshments. These meetings will be known as ‘Anna Gatherings’ and we will see how it develops.
For the first session I have a speaker to discuss poetry and a local poet is joining us. It is an exciting venture and I am encouraging my congregation to join me in it. They are very supportive.'
We wish Angela well and will be bringing news of the other February 2 Candlemas commissionings in coming days.
