Anna Chaplaincy Ministry Lead Debbie Ducille and Messy Church Ministry Lead Aike Kennett-Brown attended this year’s ChurchWorks Summit in Westminster Central Hall on Friday February 27, alongside hundreds of church leaders, voluntary and public sector leads and Christian funders.
The aim of ChurchWorks is to bring churches and Government together for positive social change, promoting unity and action on urgent social issues in local communities, such as the promotion of good mental health and wellbeing, tackling poverty and supporting children and families.
Vibrant networking opportunities and marketplace conversations were on offer, as well as engagement with a range of speakers and workshops. Keynote speakers included the new Minister for Devolution, Faith & Communities, Miatta Fahnbulleh MP, and Bishop Mike Royal, General Secretary of Churches Together in England.
Debbie reflects on the day: ‘What a rich and thought-provoking day this turned out to be! Gone are the days when churches, councils and public sector organisations had no connections or working relationships: our communities need coherent, joined-up thinking about poverty, wellbeing and social justice, and this event was a great example of partnership potential.’
‘Of particular interest to the Anna Chaplaincy team was the conversation about future opportunities in neighbourhood health, seeking an integrated approach across voluntary and statutory sectors. I look forward to seeing how we might speak into this arena and play an active part in holistic care and wellbeing provision.’
