Calling budding writers! - The Upper Room writing competition 2026
![]() We’re delighted to announce that entries for the 2026 Upper Room writing competition are now invited from new and experienced writers alike. With the tagline ‘Where the world meets to pray’, The Upper Room is a unique series of Bible reading notes, published in 33 languages and read by an estimated three million people worldwide every day. |
What makes The Upper Room special is the fact that its readers are its writers. Contributors from the widest imaginable range of backgrounds and locations share their faith experiences and biblical insights with the entire Upper Room community. One winner and two runners-up will have their reflections published in a future issue of The Upper Room (UK edition). They will also receive a year’s subscription to The Upper Room, or, if they are already a subscriber, to another of our Bible reading notes series of their choice. For the first time this year, winner and runners-up will receive goody bags, including their choice of three books from a selected list of ten of our titles. The deadline for this year’s competition is midnight on November 30, 2026. Results will be announced in January 2027. |
Georgie Tennant and April McIntyre were successful in the last competition and have gone on to write further reflections for our Bible reading notes. April says: ‘When I opened my emails and saw the message from BRF Ministries, I couldn’t quite believe it. I felt exhilarated and humbled. I am never quite sure whether people who say positive things about my writing are just being “nice” or whether it is a true appraisal. To have an objective encouragement from a national competition is really empowering and underlines that God can work through us even when we are struggling.’
And Georgie adds:
‘I had to re-read the email several times to check I hadn’t misread it. It was so encouraging to think my writing was considered a good enough standard to be included in such an amazing publication!’
