Durham Anna Chaplaincy's short afternoon retreat for older people was on the theme of pilgrimage and was held at Durham City Baptist Church on Saturday May 2.
Anna Chaplain Karen Abbott reports: 'This short dementia-friendly retreat began with Opening Worship followed by Dramatic Gospel on the theme of the Road to Emmaus after which participants had the opportunity to attend two out of three workshops each lasting 30 minutes.
One was based on 'Out of the Box': the way of using stories and play to facilitate a search for wisdom, wonder and wellbeing.

There was a musical workshop too, exploring and enjoying the sounds and rhythms of music and create a 'masterpiece'.

There was time to relax over a cup of tea or coffee and cake followed by an opportunity to share experiences of the afternoon and hear about two books: Contented Dementia by Oliver James and A dignified life - The Best Friends™ Approach to Alzheimer's Care: A Guide for Care Partners by Virginia Bell and David Troxel. The afternoon finished with Closing Worship.
