Eileen Ash was remarkable for her sporting prowess and her longevity as her obituary inThe Times makes clear. She was the world’s oldest Test cricketer at 110 years old, bowled at 70 mph and played in the England women’s tour of Australia in 1949.

She was said to have been ‘sustained by her Christian faith and regular yoga – Heather Knight, the current England captain who once did a yoga session with her, said that she had “met teenagers with less energy” – and celebrated her birthdays in style, including a ride in a Tiger Moth on her 106th.’ – ‘Obituary: Eileen Ash’, The Times, 4 December 2021.
