Pippa Cramer CBE writes: ‘I’d love to let you know about Hymns We Love, the evangelistic outreach series, developed within Connections and written with seniors in mind – this is now available for you to use with your older friends! It uses some of our most well-loved hymns to explore the Christian faith in a gentle and very accessible way and is flexible enough to be used by groups of any size – from large groups in churches, to care homes, to one-to-one sessions in people’s homes. ‘The proportion of people over-65 in the UK is growing all the time and while many face particular challenges including loneliness, many have a residual affection for Christian hymns, some of which they may have sung in years gone by. Hymns We Love uses these wonderful hymns as a means of sharing the gospel and God’s wonderful love, and our prayer is that Hymns We Love might be a catalyst for local churches and those involved in seniors' ministry to reach out to older people local to them. ‘The first series is now available for you to use with seniors local to you and we are so thrilled that Hymns We Love will launch on 1 June this year. The series comprises five main sessions and three introductory sessions (including ones for Easter and Christmas), and two Leaders’ Training Guides. Each session tells the story of the hymn writer, how the hymn came to be and the Christian message behind it. The video sessions are set in a picturesque English village church, featuring beautiful renditions of the hymns, along with testimonies and prayers. ‘The easiest way to get started is to buy a Leader’s Kit which contains everything you need to plan the series. Leader’s Kits are just £24.99 and there is a special pre-order discount of 20% when you order before 31 March (for delivery in June). Click here for details.
‘My hope and prayer is that the prayer/dream that took root in January 2020, just before the pandemic hit and we launched the Daily Hope, will really, really start taking off now… as you may know, this prayer was and still is:
“For hundreds of thousands of older people all around the world to be given the opportunity to hear the gospel, and to discover how much our amazing, wonderful God loves them…”
‘I’d so love you to join us in praying for this. If you would like to join us once a month at 1.00 pm on a Thursday lunchtime for a prayer meeting on Zoom, please do contact my colleague, Ruth Ray for the Zoom link (ruthray@hymnswelove.org) or join us in praying remotely from wherever you are every Thursday at 1.00 pm! Our next Zoom prayer meeting is on Thursday 23 February. ‘I do pray that Hymns we Love will be helpful to you as you reach out to the seniors in your community with the good news of the gospel.’ Pippa Cramer, MBE
