Five Anna Chaplains meet Archbishop Sarah Mullally in Northamptonshire

The Archbishop of Canterbury chose the Diocese of Peterborough for her first pastoral visit since her installation and five Anna Chaplains were privileged to meet with her during her visit to Northampton on Saturday May 16.

Liz Kelly, the Local Co-ordinator and Trainer, said, 'We met in the garden of St Christopher’s Church of England War Memorial Home and spoke to her about our different ministries.'

'Louise told her about the services she takes in local care homes for people living with dementia, and the regular service in church for older people.'

'Sandra explained that she works primarily out in the community, visiting and supporting those who live alone and taking Home Communion to those who can no longer get to church.'

'Jean, who lives in a village, runs a successful Messy Vintage service in her church, which anyone from the four villages in her benefice is welcome to attend. She also spends a lot of time visiting individuals in their own homes.'

'Karan volunteers in a local hospice as well as taking a leading role in Kettering Churches Together. She uses social media to publicise Anna Chaplaincy as widely as possible.'

'Archbishop Sarah also wanted to know about the training we had all undertaken before being commissioned and I described the six week online course that is run twice a year in the diocese for aspiring Anna Chaplains. She was genuinely interested in all that we were doing.

We then posed for a photograph that will serve as a permanent reminder of such a special occasion.'

Meanwhile...

Recently another new Anna Chaplaincy course began with ten new learners in Peterborough Diocese, led by diocesan coordinator Liz Kelly. This brings the number taking the training in the diocese so far this year to 25. Another 14 learners completed the national online training, with a new group of 13 starting this current course of training.
