Giving away – part of a spiritual clearing of the decks?

I wonder if you read Alys Fowler's Guardian article about her mother sorting and clearing her house and belongings. Giving away appears to be a spiritual task.

As her mother gives more and more things away so she shares stories and memories. Alys has found the process fascinating. She never wants it to end… though she knows it must.
