Congratulations to Laura Ferguson, who was commissioned as an Anna Chaplain for Hereford City Church (Elim Pentecostal) earlier this summer- on Sunday May 18.
Laura writes to say:
“Thank you for welcoming me into the Anna Chaplaincy family. During my commissioning service, a short video was played 'What is Anna Chaplaincy?' , the BRF Prayer was used and words of welcome were read out. I spoke a few words before being prayed for by several people, mostly from the church' leadership.
The BRF Prayer
Almighty God, You have taught us that your word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path. Help us, and all who prayerfully read your word, to deepen our fellowship with you and with each other through your love. And in so doing may we come to know you more fully, love you more truly, and follow more faithfully in the steps of your son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for evermore.
Amen
'I’ve been a Christian for over thirty years now, although my faith and walk with the Lord have grown a lot deeper over the last ten years. I am married and have two adult children, plus one grandchild. We spend a lot of time in Yorkshire in order to build lovely relationships with our granddaughter.
My working background has been as a qualified nurse including general nursing, oncological nursing at a cancer treatment hospital, and Macmillan nursing. I also qualified as a District Nurse but never worked as one due to a lack of available jobs.
At a later stage of my life, I also worked for several years, part-time, as a home carer. I am fortunate to have been given so many opportunities to interact with older people in various settings and with a range of different needs.
I happened upon an article from a magazine at my church about Anna Chaplaincy, written by Anne, who is doing this work at a church not far away in Malvern, Worcestershire. I had never heard of this ministry before and, as I read her article, felt very drawn to it.
I’ve since connected with Diane who is a lovely Anna Chaplain in a different part of Hereford and who is very experienced. What a fantastic help to have her nearby!
I’ve recently completed one of the online training courses which was very pleasant, enjoyable and informative.'
My ministry will be shaped around the local needs and also my availability. I believe that all will be well as the Lord leads and guides me and gives me all I need in the Holy Spirit.
'This will be such an incredible opportunity for me to grow and mature in my faith journey as I endeavour to be a channel through which the Lord will bring fresh blessings to older people.”
