On Palm Sunday, March 29, at St Nicolas' Church in Alcester, nine Great Alne Park residents supported Maureen Knight as she was commissioned as an Anna Chaplain by the Revd Daniel Corlett accompanied by the Revd Katie Cross and the Revd Julie Lindsay.

Maureen will support residents at the modern retirement complex Great Alne Park where there are about 220 over 65s, who have chosen an independent later lifestyle; many have left behind their previous support network and friendships.

Maureen said: 'It’s now more than 60 years since I first promised to love God and serve my community and I feel honoured to be able to do this.'

'I promise to perform this work prayerfully and in a spirit of mutual respect and collaboration, and to develop the faith, gifts and skill given to share in Christ's mission and ministry.'
