We're delighted to report that Nell Cawley’s commissioning as Anna Chaplain in Powys, Wales, took place a few weeks ago in Crickhowell and Llangynidr. Crickhowell is the home base for our Anna Chaplaincy Lead in Wales, the Revd Sally Rees, who attended the service.

Nell explains a little of the background to her vocation:

'I grew up in Llangattock and attended church each week with my parents and siblings. I always felt a great sense of belonging to a wonderful extended church family! After moving away to study music, initially, I felt a calling to train as a nurse. Through nursing I discovered the great privilege of caring for our older generation.

I lived in Portugal for a few years and worked in elderly and palliative care. It is also where I met my husband. We returned home to Wales to get married and to raise a family. I have enjoyed many volunteer roles within the community. However, this year I felt a calling to return to my caring role. When I saw the Anna Chaplain post advertised, I knew that was God’s plan for me. I feel very blessed to have this opportunity and to have a wonderful role model in Sally, who is guiding and supporting me. I have big shoes to fill!

My commissioning service was on Sunday September 17; a lovely, relaxed morning with beautiful music, readings and a fantastic talk from Archdeacon Alan Jevons.

'I feel strongly that older people’s ministry is where my heart is and look forward to developing this essential and very special ministry in our local area.'
