Anna Chaplaincy network members Erica Roberts and Jill Phipps are teaming up to provide a day's training on ministry among older people. Erica, who is based in Highfield, Southampton, heads up a team of Anna Chaplains in the city. Jill is our lead on Messy Vintage and has plenty of experience of this organising this style of Messy Church for older people in care homes and in sheltered accommodation.
'This should be a good interactive day for teams to come together, as they think about ministry among the older people in their community. It’s suitable for leaders and team members,' said Erica. It's on Saturday 15 February, 10.00–4.00 pm, at Old Alresford Place, Colden Lane, Alresford, Hampshire SO24 9DH.
Holistic needs Planned as an interactive and practical day which will resource anyone who is working with those in their older years, participants will be reflecting creatively about issues around loneliness, dignity and frailty in old age, Erica says: 'We will explore how our pastoral response is more effective when we understand the holistic needs of the older person.'
Sharing resources
'Practically, we will look at resources for planning worship in a residential care setting, including appropriate liturgy, music, visual aids, Story for the Soul and how to prepare for a Messy Vintage activity with Jill Phipps, the National Facilitator for Messy Vintage. There will be an opportunity to share resources and learn from each other. Throughout the day we will think about what the shape of mission looks like for this demographic and how this influences our planning and priorities in our own context.'
