See how Maggie in St Albans is involving schools in her ministry

In Hertfordshire autumn events are all part of Anna Chaplaincy's collaboration with a St Francis inter-generational project - together with St Albans Roman Catholic churches and schools. Anna Chaplain Maggie Dodd wrote to tell us all about them:

'I wanted to update you' she writes, 'about the autumn events which form part of the St Albans St Francis anniversary project, started earlier in the summer.

Continuing the theme of working with schools and older adult care communities, the beginning of the month saw a visit from St Columba’s College (SCC), St Albans, to Fosse House care home for a St Francis-themed Harvest service.

The children’s chamber choir led the service and singing, reading Bible passages and prayers that reflected St Francis’ writings and teachings on creation and the environment. At the end of the service, St Albans Community Pantry came to collect food bank donations made by the residents’ families and friends (sadly, the children had to leave before this part due to lunch timings so they are not in the photo).

Later, we continue our theme with an intergenerational craft session at Fosse House, when nine students from SCC come and spend an hour creating and decorating plasticine and wooden birds together with residents. Meanwhile, on Wednesday October 14 a small group of residents and the activities carers will visit the school to see the children, meet their teachers and see some of their work.
This year’s pilot project with St Albans Anna Chaplaincy and St Alban’s Roman Catholic churches and schools, has been really positive, and feedback from all involved suggests an enthusiasm for more inter-generational projects together in the future, which would be great.
With every blessing,
Maggie'
