Founder and CEO of Time to Talk Befriending in Sussex, Emily Kenward has been musing on the International Day of Older Persons this month. In a post on the site LinkedIn the Anna Chaplain and social worker writes: 'When we talk about ageing well, what do we mean? Social connection, health, independence, housing, finances and good support all have a part to play.

But one thing I've learned from listening to older people is how often conversations move beyond practical and social needs.'

'People talk about wanting to remain part of their communities, to continue contributing, and to know that they haven't been forgotten as life around them changes. As our population grows older, I wonder whether we should be asking not only how connected people are, but whether they know that they are valued and that their contribution still matters.'
