Poet Faith Ford has written some bereavement poetry she uses in her ministry. Faith offers us one poem in particular - 'The Anchor’ - which has been used at several funerals. 'It is from Kingdom Moments, her anthology of poetry and reflections published by Aspect Design, Malvern.
The Anchor
'The harbour’s day has finished, the fishermen’s work is done,
they have packed up their belongings and headed wayward home.
The setting sun casts a red glow, as the moon begins to rise
and the sea is flowing purple beneath blue and cherry skies.
And all our thoughts turn homeward at the closing of the day;
and we think of all our loved-ones, close by or far away,
and those who’ve gone before us to that other harbour place
safe with our Heavenly Father, now in His warm embrace.
And as our lives are closing, and our days flow to their end,
and all our toils are over, and to completion journeys wend,
we remember still our Anchor, and the special hope He gives
to those whose lives He’s guided, He who forever lives.
Thus we will know no fear upon our final journey home,
for Jesus is our anchor and He will hold in every storm.
He will lead us and protect us, and then will pilot be
as he guides us home to heaven for all eternity.'
