In mid-August, Margaret Fowler and her team in Billericay held their Holiday At Home. Margaret writes:
We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. The sun was shining, and there was just a little breeze so we could sit outside under the gazebos enjoying doing sand art and playing boules on the grass. Inside the hall we had music playing and the usual puzzles were on offer (which are always popular). Two friends of ‘Anna’s Place’, Peter and Debbie Barnes, arrived to help us with drawing and art.
By late morning we gathered everyone together because the lovely Denyse Donnell came to sing for us. She has a wonderful voice and sang songs from the shows and 1960s favourites. At the end she had everyone singing and waving their hands to ‘Hey ho silver lining’ and she finished with ‘Bring me sunshine’ which reminded us of Morecambe and Wise doing their dance at the end of their shows!
We quickly arranged all our tables and chairs outside under the gazebos and waited for our fish and chip lunch to be delivered. Ice-cream cones with chocolate flakes were next on the menu, followed by tea and coffee. Afterwards, the Revd Christine Williams led us in a song of thanksgiving to God for our meal together. It was such a good time of food, fellowship and fun.
A big thank you to all involved, but a special thank you to two young teenagers, Daniel and Jack, who gave up their time to help. They were there arranging tables and chairs before the event began, and they were still there clearing up and helping to put down the gazebos afterwards.Thank you lads, and well done team Anna!
