Anna Chaplains Ali Griffiths and Liz York have been busy again, holding monthly Messy Vintage events with local friends in Eccles Hall in June and July. These were fairly small groups, enjoying a biblical-themed painting activity along with readings. Both ended with Communion, as Liz and Ali are Eucharistic ministers, which means that they can give Communion to all who want it. Ali adds:
‘We have been lucky enough to purchase our own Communion set, which was funded by our church, so Communion will be available at our gatherings. It is a lovely part of the service and a very important part, as some of our ladies cannot attend church anymore, so we can bring a bit of church to them.’
Meanwhile, offering religious and spiritual care to residents in Havelock Place exceeded all expectations recently at what Ali calls ‘our prayers, paints and communion service’ with eleven ladies attending. Starting with prayers, a Bible reading and a hymn, the group then spent an hour painting biblical scenes. Ali reflects:
‘It was amazing to see these ladies so engaged in what they were doing, so focused and paying great attention to detail.’
Here are some of the lovely photos taken, shared with permission by the home:
Ali concludes:
‘I can’t begin to describe how rewarding this ministry is, we are very lucky to have the opportunity to engage, serve and spend precious time with these wonderful ladies. We thank Sheila L and all her staff for accommodating us so well.’
