The 80th anniversary of VE Day has been marked by communities across the land, with Anna Chaplains playing their part in facilitating events in various locations.
Susan is one of a number who wrote to thank us for the resources we produced especially for the big day. The Wednesday Club at her church in Portsmouth discussed their wartime memories, and, after their short service, ended by watching a video of Vera Lynn singing ‘We’ll Meet Again’. “It all went so well, with the lovely words, powerful prayers and excellent hymn choices. The ladies expressed their gratitude for the service and said that they really enjoyed it.”

Meanwhile, along the coast in Emsworth, those who dropped into the Methodist church café on Thursday 8th May were joined by the Fun and Friendship group to mark the occasion. A short service included the opportunity to place a poppy on a large world map, calling to mind those areas of the world which are experiencing conflict today.

The resources produced to help in the planning of events included a recording of memories of the day. In Devon, for instance, Annie used our recording of 'Brenda reading from her mother’s diary' of the time at her local residential home.
Meanwhile, in Rossendale, Lancashire, Tricia’s team made paper aeroplanes for their group to launch, symbolising humanitarian relief for all war-torn countries.
A big thank you to all Anna Chaplains for helping those they work with to commemorate the day and to share their memories.
