Many individuals around the country will enjoy celebrating the mothers in their families this weekend - flowers, meals and chocolates may be shared, words of love and appreciation expressed. But for many others, this will be a difficult day, when loss of a mother, or loss of being a mother, opens up painful memories, deep sadness.
How precious, then, to celebrate mothering of all kinds, past and present – those individuals who have gifted their love and compassion to others whether they are a Mum or not, mirroring the eternal love of God for all people – He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4
For Anna Chaplains around the country, they may well be serving among families where the deep waters of dementia have altered relationships, or fond words cannot be expressed in the usual way. A post from two years’ ago from the Revd Peter Crumpler is revisited here, offering a prayer for all those families on Mothering Sunday who are living with dementia.
We thank God for the compassionate care given week in, week out, by all those in the Anna Chaplaincy network, expressing the love of God among all whom they serve.
