Anna Chaplaincy Ministry Lead Debbie Ducille joined a Christians on Ageing conference call on Monday night (February 16) when the charity's Chair, Keith Albans, was reflecting on a new report from the Centre for Ageing Better.
'The State of Ageing Summary 2025 is a comprehensive report,' says Debbie.
The report begins: 'Our new analysis of the state of ageing in England in 2025 reveals millions more of us are living into our seventies, eighties, nineties and beyond, in good health, working for longer and supporting our communities through volunteering and caring.'
However, Debbie pinpointed several issues highlighted from Monday evening’s discussion on the new report:
Increasing numbers of men are living longer on their own, and are more likely to experience social isolation. How can the church respond to the spiritual needs of older men, where provision is often aimed at older women?
Numbers of black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) older people are increasing in urban areas particularly: what is the church’s response, particularly regarding chaplaincy and befriending?
3.5m people aged 65+ don’t use or have Internet access at home
Healthy life expectancy in England is in decline, since Covid.
