Walking for Anna Chaplaincy - in Surrey - raises more than £1000

Elaine Crutchley, Anna Chaplaincy Coordinator at The Meeting Place, Bookham, Surrey, has written to tell us about their recent sponsored walk:

'Inspired by Debbie Ducille’s plan to celebrate 10 years of Anna Chaplaincy by walking from Alton to Abingdon, we decided to organise a local walk in the area in which we operate our chaplaincy.

The aims were to help with the fundraising for the wonderful Anna Chaplaincy ministry in BRF Ministries, and to enjoy time walking alongside each other and mark out our patch with prayer.

Tuesday September 17 was a fine day and ten of us gathered at our base at Eastwick Road Church. We prayed together and set off, a motley gang, aged from 52 to 90.  Our aim was to walk uphill to a local National Trust property, Polesden Lacey, which sits on the North Downs overlooking Bookham, Fetcham and Effingham. There we were joined by three more members of our Anna Chaplaincy community and enjoyed a welcome cup of coffee. After coffee we gathered in a local field.

Liz Tapp, our Anna Chaplain, led us in a prayer of thanks to God who has blessed us so much as we have sought to reach out to the community.  She committed the elderly folk living in the valley below to the Lord and prayed for God’s ongoing blessing on our work.

It was then downhill across autumn corn fields from which we could see the distant London skyline as well as marvel at kites flying above us.

Our walk ended at our local care home, Liberham Lodge. We were greeted so warmly by staff there and they sat us down for a sandwich lunch. We felt really honoured. It had been such a great morning, walking alongside each other.  So far today we have raised nearly £1200.'
