A special licensing service has been held at Highfield Church in Southampton for the Revd Dave Hendra, the city's first chaplain specifically for dementia care.
Dave Hendra is a chaplain for Caraway, the Christian charity based in Southampton which has a team of Anna Chaplains founded by City Chaplain for Older People, Canon Dr Erica Roberts, (another member of the Anna Chaplaincy network). Caraway provides spiritual and pastoral support for older people at home, in the community and in residential care.
Read more about his licensing by the Bishop of Winchester, the Right Revd Philip Mounstephen, at the annual Refresh and Resource event staged by Erica and her team at Highfield Church in Southampton on Monday (May 13) in the Winchester Diocesan newsletter.
The theme of this year’s Refresh and Resources day was “A bright hope for tomorrow” and included workshops and a chance to share stories and encourage each other. Revd Gill Sakakini led a creative workshop: “It’s important to have this event. It draws people together, so they know they are not alone. It’s important to support each other and to share stories and struggles and ideas to take back to your home.”
Representing the BRF Ministries team on the day was our own Anna Chaplaincy coordinator Marian Muskett. See her blog reflecting on a stimulating day for all.
