Take time to dwell on Anna’s story… and our story too!

Updated: Jan 19, 2023

As the snowdrops start peeping through, it’s an apt moment to speak of the hope Anna Chaplains bring, inspired by the widow Anna in the Bible.

‘Candlemas Sunday is the perfect time to share the Anna Chaplaincy success story’, writes a Norfolk Anna Chaplain Gaye Hailstone:

‘The gospel reading for Candlemas Sunday – Luke 2:22–40 – is a wonderful opening chapter which naturally leads into the story of Anna Chaplaincy ministry.

‘Here at Yare Valley Churches, the Anna Chaplaincy team approached the ministry team and suggested that the gospel reading at all services on 29 January may be read by members of the Anna Chaplaincy team, who would follow the reading with a short talk; one which would remind the congregation about Anna Chaplaincy and what we do in our parish to spiritually support older people and those living with dementia.

‘The ministry team welcomed the idea and we are looking forward to Candlemas Sunday and to sharing our experiences and our ministry with the rest of our church family. It is the perfect opportunity to share the Anna Chaplaincy story with others.’

Debbie (Thrower) adds:Gaye is quite right, please do let us know if you follow suit and choose this time of year to publicise Anna Chaplaincy ministry over the coming days and weeks.

‘It is indeed an appropriate time as we celebrate Simeon and Anna – who are such an inspiration for this work – during the season of Candlemas.

‘I shall be preaching on Sunday 29 January at St Lawrence Church, Alton, at the 10.30 am Holy Communion service marking Candlemas. Do join us where Anna Chaplaincy all began!’
