Methodist website spotlights Anna Chaplaincy’s help for people with dementia

Updated: May 12, 2022

Essex Anna Chaplain Eileen Simmons – based at Benfleet Methodist Church – is featured in a great article for the national Methodist Church website. Eileen writes about her work, particularly in support of people living with dementia and their carers.

‘Our local churches encourage new and existing groups to get together to offer hospitality to people who may otherwise feel hugely isolated. At Benfleet Methodist Church there are daily coffee mornings where people from the local community, as well as from their own church community meet together. For some people, the coffee mornings are a lifeline. The church also holds monthly community Sunday lunches in their Sports Hall and attract so many who would otherwise eat alone.’

A picture emerges of how Eileen and her colleagues are making a real difference in the lives of people as they emerge from the challenges of the past two years living with the restrictions imposed as a result of Covid-19.

Read her full story which may well inspire others to offer similar help.
