Reminders of childhood Christmases

Updated: Dec 3, 2020

Viv Hutchison in Hampshire recalls the days of Christmas puddings made in white china bowls and wrapped in muslin

Proof of the pudding

Covid-19 is making accomplished performers of a great many people who might never have expected to start broadcasting! However, necessity is the mother of invention, as they say.

Viv Hutchinson in the New Forest wrote to me recently, saying: 'Normally at this time of year I am planning a Christmas Party for the Women’s Fellowship at St Andrews Church in Dibden Purlieu. I usually do a little talk and a demonstration of how to make something Christmassy, this year we obviously can’t get together.

'We are usually busy planning our Cameo Christmas lunch for 50 older people in our parish, but again we can't do this. I wondered what I could do to connect with them so I made this YouTube video of me reminiscing about the Christmases of my childhood in the 50’s and 60’s.

'The link will go out in the church newsletter in December and I am also going to send it to the local care homes to see if they would like to use it to spark talk of the residents' memories of their past Christmases.'
